Two views of the Eagle Marsh, Ankeny NWR, Willamette Valley, OR

The top painting was created with a palette knife – manipulating pigments straight from the tube onto the canvas. Direct strokes create sharp delineations reinforced by strong color fields.

Capture of energy and the dynamic interplay of landscape elements prevail over information.

The painting on the right was created with brushes - a technique that can provide much more detail (and doubled the time to complete the painting). This results in additional recognizable landscape attributes and calmer transitions.

Tension and energy are buffered by information as the details of an iridescent winters day are revealed.
